We have rounded the bend in the first month of 2011 and it is time to reflect: are we doing what we can to make 2011 the best year of our life?
Sales, like life, is a series of situations, featuring obstacles, triumphs and pitfalls. Our approach to both must be process-oriented; if we can jettison comfortable ways of average behavior, we can unleash the true potential inside us all.

This note today is simply to challenge you to MAKE 2011 the best year of your life!

It IS a decision. You should always have goals in mind and written down so you can see them. No matter how wide the gap between present and that desirable future, your choice is clear: start walking towards it. Or, better yet, run. But don’t sprint; you’ll get winded and will have trouble finishing the race. It’s a marathon, not a dash.

Don’t let fear debilitate you; the things you want to accomplish can be accomplished. The only reason we hear about celebrities is because they broke on through to that “other side”; can you even imagine how many extremely talented people we have not heard about, or have not heard about yet? The best unknown actors, writers, directors, and salespeople are out there. When they stop trying, the 99% of the population that isn’t considered famous suffers for that transgression.

Do you remember the moment you first jumped off the high dive at the swimming pool? There was some anticipation and angst, but afterwards, you did it again and again. Life and sales are very much like that experience; trying new things, branching out and leaving our comfort zone may give us some sweats or butterflies, but the best rewards come from being able to take that flying cannonball into the deep end.

So all the best, and make it a great YEAR!
